Acceptable Internet Use Policy
Community Library and the State Library of Ohio are pleased to provide Internet access to the community via the Ohio Public Library Information Network (OPLIN). The Internet is an unrestricted global entity with a highly diverse user population and patrons use it at their own risk. As with other library materials, it is the patron, or the parent or legal guardian of minor children, who assumes responsibility for supervising access to Internet resources in the library.
Community Library makes a reasonable effort to keep public access computers available, subject to periodic maintenance, during library hours. Use of the public access computers is limited to one-half hour unless no one else is scheduled. Patrons may also access the Internet with personal wireless devices via the library's wireless network. The wireless device will require configuration, but the Community Library staff cannot assist you and is not responsible for any changes you make to personal software or hardware settings.
Use of the Internet within the library will be used for educational, informational, and recreational purposes only, and not for unauthorized, illegal or unethical purposes. Patrons may not send, receive, download, or display text or graphics which may reasonably be construed as sexually explicit, promoting drugs or various illegal acts.
Respect the privacy of others by not misrepresenting oneself as another user, by not attempting to modify or gain access to files, passwords, or data belonging to others, by not seeking unauthorized access to any computer system, or by damaging or altering software components of any computer, network device, or database.
Patrons may not use their own software programs or media on the library's public access computers. This will help prevent malicious applications that are common on public computers. Patrons must purchase media from a librarian if they wish to save files being downloaded on public access computers. Media used to save Internet files may not be used in any other library computer, nor on future visits to Community Library. Community Library staff can only provide general download assistance.
Files downloaded from the Internet may contain a malicious application and the Community Library is not responsible for damage to a patron's media or computer, or for any loss of data, damage, or liability that may occur from patron use of the library's computers.
Patrons may not always be able to access resources they wish to view. The reason may be that too many visitors are accessing the host computer, the database or resources are limited to a particular institution, the host computer has a different address or is no longer in service, or the library's Internet connection is temporarily unavailable due to technical difficulties.
Misuse of Internet access in the library will result in loss of Internet use and all library privileges for 30 days.
Community Library's mission is to create environments for all to access information, pursue interests, discover community heritage and interact with each other.
It is understood by users of the Internet that most of the information available is generated neither by the Community Library nor the Ohio Public Library Information Network (OPLIN). The library, through OPLIN, has access to reference databases of general and special periodical materials, readers' advisory services, homework centers to assist students with research assignments, and legislative, historical, and archival materials and information.
Information available through OPLIN and the Internet is not guaranteed by Community Library or OPLIN to be accurate, authoritative, factual, or complete. The availability of networked information via Community Library does not constitute any endorsement or ratification of that information. Community Library and OPLIN are not responsible for the content of the available networked information. The use of OPLIN and the Internet to engage in any activity which constitutes violation of local, state, and/or federal laws is strictly prohibited.
All users of this service agree to hold Community Library and OPLIN harmless from any and all claims, losses, damages, obligations, or liabilities directly or indirectly relating to the use of OPLIN and the Internet, caused thereby or arising therefrom. In no event shall Community Library or OPLIN have any liability for lost profits or for indirect, special, punitive, or consequential damages or any liability to any third party, even if Community Library or OPLIN is advised of the possibility of such damages.
